Course Goals:
1. To learn the technical skills necessary to create digital graphics, animation and/or web sites.
2. To learn to use images as a means to artistic communication.
3. To introduce and explore various ways of seeing and communicating.
Course Format:
This class will be covered by way of lecture, discussion, demonstration, presentations and guest speakers. This course is project-based.
You will be given the necessary skills then assigned a project that demonstrates those skills.
Acceptable Use Policy:
You and your parents need to have read the Alvin Independent School District Network/Internet Acceptable Use Policy.
Supplies:
- Binder/Folder with paper
- Pencil and/or Pen
- 1 CD-R or CD-RW
- Flash/Jump drive (optional)
- $10 fee for lab costs ($50 AP fee / $20 Indie Study Fee)
* in addition, the following supplies may be brought in for an extra daily grade of 100:
-- markers, wet wipes, box of pens or pencils, can of compressed air, or hand sanitizer
(only one extra grade will be give per semester, unless we are total out of that supply)
Bring supplies everyday!
Attendance:
You are required to be here and attend class. If you miss a class, check with me as soon as you return. You are responsible for making up work. If you are absent for a test, you must reschedule a makeup test the day you return to school. If you miss a critique you will lose that grade. Critiques cannot be made up. If you miss a presentation, see me the day you return. Refer to the Student Handbook on make-up work rules.
Critiques:
We will have critiques. Critiques are an opportunity for students to share opinions and ideas about work. It is an excellent way to articulate your thoughts and fine-tune your visual awareness skills. Everyone will be expected to participate. Disrespect will not be tolerated!
Current Events:
Technology is changing rapidly and in order to keep up with the new trends you will be required to read and summarize an article related to technology. This summary must be at least one page in length and typed. You must include a citation of the current event you read. Good grammar and spelling are expected. This will count as a test grade.
Detailed information will be give prior to first assignment. Due dates will be FIRM! Plagiarism is unacceptable!!
Grading:
This class will be graded on a daily effort, tests and completion of projects.
Daily grades: 15%
Tests/Quizzes: 20%
Step-by-Step Projects: 25%
On Your Own Projects: 40%
