Step 19: Adding Text

The last thing we will add to our image is our name - proof that we put this puppy (...or kitty...SORRY, BAD JOKE. I couldn't resist...) together ourselves. This is a quick and easy step, and will set us up for Step 20. Let's begin by getting our file open...

1. Open Cartoon
2. Click the Horizontal Type Tool (it looks like this: ) - be sure you are using horizontal text and not vertical text or one of the text masks, which are located on the same button
3. With the text tool selected, click in the upper-left hand corner of your image and drag to create a box - it does not really matter how big you make the box, as long as it is big enough to fit your name
4. Notice that Photoshop has added in a new layer for you to type the text on and named it Layer 1
5. Type your name in the box
6. Using your mouse, click and drag to select your name
7. Make your text tool options bar match the graphic below:
   
8. Activate the Move tool (don't know what that is? see Step 16, direction 6), and move your name to the upper-left hand corner of your graphic
9. On the Layers palette, notice that the text layer you created is no longer named Layer 1, but instead should now by named with your name
10. Click and drag the text layer up until it is the very top layer on the layer palette

This same process can be used to add things like copyright notices, trademarks, logos, etc. You will not have to bother with doing any of these as Dogman was not your creation but instead was actually drawn by someone else, so you can't copyright it. Sorry. Should you create an image all by yourself from scratch in the future, you now know how to put your personal stamp on it.

We are now done adding things to our file, so let's save it and get ready for the final step...

11. Click File then Save

Go ahead and leave the Cartoon file open and move on to the next step...
